COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College men's basketball player
Matt Morris was named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference/Baden Offensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner
Sarah Meier announced today.
Morris, a 6-foot-6, 235-lb. senior center from Durango High School, recorded double-doubles in both of Fort lewis' home wins this past weekend. He has notched five double-doubles so far during the 2011-12 campaign, including FLC's past four games.
“Matt's the MVP of the league right now,” said 16th-year FLC head coach
Bob Hofman. “There's no player in the league that means more to their team than Matt does to us. We wouldn't have a win this year without him.”
He led the Skyhawks in scoring (18) and rebounding (10) in a 56-43 comeback win against Chadron State last Friday. He followed that up by leading FLC in scoring (21), rebounding (11), and assists (four) in an 83-71 come-from-behind win over Nebraska-Kearney one day later.
Morris also became the 17th men's basketball player in FLC history to notch 500 career rebounds. He now ranks 15th in FLC history with 515 career caroms.
The Skyhawks (7-4 overall, 5-2 in the RMAC) hit the road this coming weekend for their annual New Mexico trek. FLC travels to New Mexico Highlands (6-6, 4-4) at 8 p.m. Friday and to Western New Mexico (3-9, 3-5) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
