DENVER — For the second time in his career, Fort Lewis College men's basketball player
DeAndre Lansdowne received Daktronics All-Central Region honors, regional coordinator Andrew Schlichting announced today.
“The fact that DeAndre has played hurt all year long is a real tribute to his character,” said 15th-year FLC head coach
Bob Hofman. “Any honor he gets, he richly deserves. He's been a great player for four years and this is a nice tribute to all that he's achieved here at Fort Lewis College.”
Lansdowne, a 6-foot-2 senior guard from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, N.M., has earned a bevy of honors during his storied career. In 2010-11 alone, he was one of four players to be unanimously chosen to the All-
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference first team, was picked by league coaches as Preseason RMAC Player of the Year and Preseason RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, received preseason All-America honorable mention accolades, was named to the All-RMAC Shootout team and was a one-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week.
In previous years, he was named to the All-RMAC first team as a junior, to the All-RMAC West Division first team as a sophomore and as RMAC Freshman of the Year in 2008-09. He was also a first team Daktronics All-Central Region and second team NABC All-Central Region pick in 2009-10.
Lansdowne ranks among RMAC leaders in steals (third, 2.0 per game), scoring (seventh, 15.2 points per game) and three-point shooting (seventh, .393).
He is FLC's career leader in scoring (1,813 points — the only player to eclipse 1,700 career points, let alone 1,800), field goals (663) and free throws (384), while ranking among the school's all-time leaders in steals (second, 201), blocked shots (seventh, 51), rebounds (ninth, 552), assists (13th, 251) and three-pointers (17th, 103).
Division II sports information directors from across the region chose the All-Central Region teams.
Eight all-region teams were selected throughout the nation by Division II sports information directors. The top five student-athletes from each region will be considered for Daktronics All-America honors. The All-America team will be announced prior to the Elite Eight games in Springfield, Mass, later this month.
The Skyhawks (22-7 overall) will face Mesa State (Colo.) (18-9) at 2:30 p.m. (Central Standard Time) Saturday at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn., in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Regionals. Fort Lewis and Mesa State have met three times thus far in 2010-11, with the Mavs taking the two RMAC regular season meetings (75-67 at FLC on Dec. 19 and 72-52 at MSC on Feb. 26). The Skyhawks won the RMAC Shootout quarterfinal meeting 74-66 last Tuesday in Durango.
Preceding the FLC/MSC game is a contest between Colorado Mines (24-5) and Adams State (20-8) at noon (CST). Saturday's evening session features Minnesota State (24-4) vs. Winona State (Minn.) (20-9) at 6 p.m. (CST), followed by Mary (N.D.) (23-5) vs. Metro State (Colo.) (21-7) at 8:30 p.m. (CST).
Should the Skyhawks win Saturday, they'll face the Mines/Adams winner at 5 p.m. (CST) Sunday. The other quarterfinal winners will square off at 7:30 p.m. (CST) Sunday. Tuesday's regional championship will be played at 7 p.m. (Central Daylight Time).
