COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College men's basketball player
David Kanyinda was named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference/Baden Offensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner
Sarah Meier announced today.
Kanyinda, a 6-foot-1 senior from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, N.M., scored 25 points in FLC's 99-60 win at Colorado Christian Friday and added 21 points in the Skyhawks' 86-83 win at Colorado Mines Saturday. All totaled, he scored 46 points in 39 minutes of action coming off the bench.
The reserve guard, who was a Preseason All-RMAC selection, shot well from the field, making 12 of 19 field goals (.632), six of nine three-pointers (.667) and 16 of 20 free throws (.800). He also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Kanyinda is averaging 14.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Fort Lewis returns to Whalen Gymnasium for games at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday against Metro State (13-2, 10-1) and Regis (5-10, 2-9). Friday's tilt against the Roadrunners is a battle for first place in the RMAC standings, as the Skyhawks trail Metro by just one game.
