COLORADO SPRINGS – Fort Lewis College forward
Hayley Hollenga was named
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week today, RMAC Assistant Commissioner
Sarah Meier announced today.
“Hayley is just a very difficult athlete for opponents to deal with,” said fourth year Skyhawk head women's soccer coach
Damian Clarke. “She is smart about how she runs and what she chooses to do once she gets the ball.”
Hollenga, a 5-foot-8 junior from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, scored game-winning goals in FLC's
1-0 win at then-No. 4 West Texas last Friday and in a
2-1 double-overtime victory over Eastern N.M. last Sunday. She also netted the game-winner in a
1-0 double-overtime win vs. Augustana on Sept. 5.
“There aren't many kids in the country who have three game winners in a row, ever,” said Clarke. “It's something that's pretty rare.”
Hollenga was a Preseason All-RMAC selection this fall. She comes off a season in which she scored a career-high 10 goals and earned third team All-RMAC and All-Central Region accolades. She was also a RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll performer and was named to the All-RMAC Tournament Team as a sophomore. As a true freshman in 2007, she earned second team All-Midwest Region honors.
The Skyhawks (4-0-0 overall) moved up four spots to No. 10 in the latest NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II rankings. They return to action with games at CSU-Pueblo (2-2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at the Rawlings Sports Complex and at Nebraska-Kearney (3-1-0) at noon (MDT) Sunday at Foster Field.
