Eight Skyhawks Earn RMAC All-Academic Honors

DURANGO, Colo. – February 8, 2018 – Eight Fort Lewis College women's basketball student-athletes earned 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic honors, announced today by the league office.  Sophomore guard Kayla Herrera (3.75 GPA, Public Health), senior guard Shelby Patterson (4.00 GPA, Accounting) and senior forward Natalie Stilwell (4.00 GPA, Fountain Hills, Ariz.) were voted to the RMAC All-Academic First Team.  Earning Honor Roll accolades are senior forward Kelsey Wainright (3.92 GPA, Marketing), redshirt-freshman forward Jordan Carter (3.84 GPA), redshirt-freshman Olivia Gray (3.66 GPA, Business Administration), junior forward Alyssa Yocky (3.93 GPA, Biology), and sophomore guard Kaitlyn Romero (3.43 GPA, Accounting).
 
CSU-Pueblo's Molly Rohrer was named the RMAC Women's Basketball Academic Player of the Year.  The First Team All-Academic members were voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters.  All student-athletes that meet those requirements, but were not voted First Team, automatically qualify for Honor Roll.
 
The 2017 RMAC Freshman of the Year, Kayla Herrera (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe HS) has started all 23 games this season.  She ranks third in the RMAC in steals (2.0 per game), seventh in assists-to-turnovers (1.6), and 10th in assists (3.1 per game).  An RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection last year, Herrera is averaging 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.  She has scored at least 10 points in 10 games this season.
 
A native of Peyton, Colo., Shelby Patterson (Peyton HS) has seen action in 22 games this season and has started 10 games.  Patterson has dished out 24 assists, blocked four shots and stole the ball four times.  She is averaging 3.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
 
Natalie Stilwell (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills HS) has competed in 13 games for the Skyhawks in her senior season.  Stilwell has tallied 37 points, 30 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals.  She has netted 16-of-32 field goals and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
 
A five-year member of the program, Kelsey Wainright (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch HS) is making her third appearance on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.  Wainright has played in all 23 games this season and started 18.  She is averaging 4.4 points and 2.9 rebounds while hitting 46.5 percent from the floor (40-of-86).
 
Redshirt freshman Jordan Carter (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek HS) has notched six starts this season and has played in all 23 games.  She has scored 104 points this season and grabbed 57 rebounds.  Carter has added 10 blocked shots and stole the ball nine times.
 
A native of Argyle, Texas (Argyle HS), redshirt freshman Olivia Gray has registered 41 points, 66 rebounds, 15 steals and 23 assists in 23 games played this season. 
 
A 2017 All-RMAC Second Team and RMAC All-Academic First Team selection, Alyssa Yocky (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) has played in 11 games this season after missing the first half due to an injury.  She has scored 67 points, pulled down 59 rebounds, dished out 13 assists and stole the ball eight times.
 
Kaitlyn Romero (Velarde, N.M./Espanola Valley HS) has played in 20 games this season, tallying 33 points, 21 rebounds, nine steals and 13 assists. 
 
The Skyhawks (18-5, 12-5 RMAC) will travel to Western State Colorado University and Colorado Mesa University Feb. 9-10.
