The Fort Lewis College football team suffered their second straight home loss this past Saturday against No. 18 Colorado Mesa University.
FLC held an 11-point lead, 28-17, with 11:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, but were out-scored 17-0 to close out the game.
The Skyhawks recorded 478 yards of total offense on 74 plays. FLC's defense held CMU to 139 rushing yards.
FLC's defense was led by
Shane Nelson who notched 12 tackles (four solo).
Andrew Ike tallied eight tackles and one sack for a loss of eight yards.
Maomao Niko broke up two passes to go with his seven tackles. The Skyhawks sacked the Mavericks twice for a loss of 17 yards.
The Mavericks capitalized on four of the Skyhawks turnovers (two interceptions, two fumbles), by scoring 24 points. CMU's only turnover was on downs with 43 seconds left in the first half.
PJ Hall carried the ball 22 times for 151 yards, out-rushing the entire CMU team (139 yards).
FLC forced the Mavericks to punt three times, while FLC did not punt once against CMU.
Two of the Skyhawks three touchdown passes were longer than 50 yards.
Arealous Hughes' first career touchdown catch was 65-yards. He posted a career high five receptions for a career high 113 yards.
DJ Robinson also caught his first career touchdown pass when he scampered in from 66 yards out.
The Skyhawks defense accounted for five tackles for a loss of 26 yards, and two sacks for a loss of 17 yards, while breaking up nine passes.
Shane Nelson led both teams defensively with 12 tackles.
Andrew Ike added eight tackles and a sack for a loss of eight yards.
FLC will remain at home this week to play host to Colorado School of Mines on Saturday at 12 p.m. The Skyhawks are in the middle of a three game home stand.
The Orediggers are one of the top offensive teams in the league, leading the RMAC in scoring (45.4 points per game), total offense (532.8 yards per game), pass offense (422.8 yards per game), passing efficiency (169.1), and first downs (26.5 per game).
Conversely, the Skyhawks defense is one of the top in the RMAC, with a league best in opponent first downs (18.2 per game), total defense (323.6 yards per game), and passing defense efficiency. FLC is second in the RMAC in rushing offense (253.8 yards per game), rushing defense (106.2 yards per game), and fourth in scoring defense (26.5 points allowed per game) and passing defense (217.2 yards allowed per game).
Fort Lewis is tops in the league in time of possession, recording an average time of 35 minutes and 20 seconds.
Hall and Drake Griffith rank No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, in the league in rushing with 106.2 yards and 94.8 yards each.
In just two games behind center, sophomore quarterback
Bo Coleman is second in the league in pass efficiency with 155.8.
Senior linebacker
Andrew Ike is 10th in the RMAC in tackles with 7.8 tackles per game, and a total of two sacks.
Junior running back
PJ Hall became only the third running back in school history to rack up at least 1,000 yards in a season (2015). Hall carried the ball 230 times for 1,128 yards in 2015, the second most by any FLC back (Scott Stamper-1,206 yards, 1982 and Joe Moore-1,058 yards, 2000). Hall needs 1,409 yards to tie the all-time rushing leader Joe Moore (3,566 yards, 2000-2004).
