Fort Lewis’ Duffey chosen as WILA Defensive Player of the Week

Freshman sets new school record for most caused turnovers in a single game

ALAMOSA, Colo. — Fort Lewis College's Katlyne Duffey was named the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Defensive Player of the Week, WILA Director Chris Day announced today.

Duffey, a 5-foot-8 freshman defense from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in New Hope, Minn., set a new FLC record with seven caused turnovers in the win over the Grizzlies on Saturday. Her eight ground balls in that game rank second in school history.

“Duffey had a solid game against Adams,” said third-year FLC head lacrosse coach Kelsey MacDonald. “She read what their attack was trying to do and came up with big stops, interceptions and the 50/50 balls. She did her job defensively.”

Fort Lewis (3-1 overall, 2-1 WILA) defeated Adams State 10-4 last Saturday in its only game of the weekly reporting period. The Skyhawks have since defeated Chestnut Hill 10-9 on Monday.

As a team, FLC set a new single game standard for caused turnovers with 29 against ASU, three more than the previous school record.

Fort Lewis continues its road trip through the Keystone State with games at West Chester (0-0) at 1 p.m. MST tomorrow and at Millersville (1-0) at 11 a.m. MST on Saturday.
