TUCSON, Ariz. — Fort Lewis College quarterback
Tim Jenkins will play in the second annual
Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game at 7 p.m. Friday at Kino Stadium.
The game is an exhibition of draft-eligible seniors, providing a platform for selected, elite athletes to showcase their talents to scouts from the NFL, CFL and Arena teams. Last year's roster produced six NFL draft picks, including the 98th overall pick, Gino Gradkowski, who went to the Baltimore Ravens. An additional 61 players off the 2012 roster entered NFL training camp in July.
“It's awesome for Tim to be playing against other premier players from across the country,” said third-year FLC head football coach Cesar Rivas-Sandoval. “His dream of playing at the next level is getting closer and closer. This is a great opportunity for Tim as well as Fort Lewis College. There are very few players who have the opportunity to play in these senior bowls. We wish him all the best.”
Jenkins, a 6-foot-3, 220-lb. senior from ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., was limited to just six games in 2012 while battling head and shoulder injuries. In those contests, he completed 161 of 301 passes for 1,817 yards and eight touchdowns against eight interceptions.
He was chosen as the National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame – Colorado Chapter Player of the Week on Oct. 1 after completing 36 of 58 passes for 501 yards and three touchdowns in FLC's 50-21 loss to then-No. 3 Colorado State-Pueblo on Sept. 29. In that game, Jenkins set a new personal best and threw for the third most yards in a single game in FLC history.
He ended his career third in school history in passing yards (8,857), fourth in touchdown passes (47) and second in completion percentage with a minimum of 500 attempts (.583).
Jenkins was previously chosen as a second team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection in 2010, the RMAC Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2009 and was a two-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Nearly 100 players from mostly NCAA Division I schools will participate. Jenkins is one of a handful of Division II players chosen for the game. He'll get to participate alongside such players as Kansas quarterback Dayne Crist, Oklahoma defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland, TCU linebacker Kenny Cain and Michigan State defensive back Mitchell White, among others.
The game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks and will be carried exclusively on ESPN3 and available through WatchESPN.com, on smart phones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold members.
The last Skyhawks to appear in a senior bowl were wide receiver Justin Johnson and linebacker Mark Meng, both of whom appeared in Cactus Bowl Division II All-Star Game (Johnson in January 2011, Meng in January 2009).
