Skyhawk guard Kuchar chosen as RMAC Defensive Player of the Week

Junior ties career highs in points, three-pointers, steals during road trip

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College's Ashley Kuchar was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference/Baden Defensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced today.

Kuchar, a 5-foot-8 junior guard from Provo High School in Provo, Utah, led the Skyhawks with five steals, two blocked shots and six defensive rebounds in two road wins last weekend. She tied career highs with 24 points, six three-pointers and three steals in FLC's win at Black Hills State on Saturday, adding 15 points against Chadron State the previous night.

A three-year starter for the Skyhawks, Kuchar previously was named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore in 2011-2.

Fort Lewis (5-6 overall, 4-3 RMAC) completed its most successful — and longest — road trip of the season last weekend, defeating Chadron State 78-66 on Friday and Black Hills State 80-71 on Saturday.

Winners of four out of their last five games, the Skyhawks look to continue their strong play at when they host New Mexico Highlands (3-9, 3-5) on Friday and Western New Mexico (1-11, 0-8) on Saturday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m. in Whalen Gymnasium.
