COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women's cross country runner
Courtney Ragle was named to the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Honor Roll, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced on Dec. 13, 2012.
Ragle, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Boswell High School in Saginaw, Texas, maintains a 3.31 grade point average in English-Communications.
“I'm certainly as proud of the academic accomplishments as our athletic ones,” said first-year FLC head cross country coach
Mark Dutro. “Our beginning-of-the-season goal-setting included academic success as individuals and as a team.”
The Skyhawk skipper praised Ragle for her balance of academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. “Courtney did not have the athletic season she had last year due to injuries, but made up for it in the classroom. The impressive part for Courtney is the ability to achieve this honor with all of the responsibilities she has: cross country, 17 credits, an editor for the Independent (FLC's student news magazine and online news service), working and her social life.”
Ragle competed in most of FLC's early-season races, setting a personal best at the 6k distance with a time of 28:01 at Colorado's Rocky Mountain Shootout on Sept. 29.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC accolades, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve and have competed two consecutive semesters at their current institution. The student-athlete's cumulative GPA is what they had earned prior to the cross country season beginning. RMAC sports information directors at schools that sponsor the sport of women's cross country selected the first and second teams.
Adams State's Kelly Lamb was chosen as the RMAC Women's Cross Country Academic Runner of the Year. Lamb's junior campaign culminated in a 13th place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships. She carries a 3.98 GPA in Business Administration.
The Skyhawk women's cross country team finished ninth out of 28 teams at the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals on Nov. 3 in Denver.
