Skyhawk striker Weiss chosen as RMAC Offensive Player of the Week

Sophomore scores three goals, adds assist in Texas sweep

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College striker Sam Weiss was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced today.

Weiss, a 5-foot-4 sophomore from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz., notched three goals and an assist in two FLC wins in Wichita Falls, Texas, last weekend. On Friday, she scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in FLC's 3-0 win over Midwestern State. She registered another marker in FLC's 4-2 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday.

“She's consistently dangerous,” said sixth-year FLC head coach Damian Clarke. “She shows a bit of that through her performance in two games. I'm glad I don't have to defend her.”

Weiss has nearly equaled half of her total offensive output in 2011. She notched six goals and three assists as a true freshman.

No. 5 Fort Lewis opens its home slate against Angelo State (2-0-0) at noon Sunday at Dirks Field. The Rambelles beat Texas-Permian Basin 2-0 last Thursday and New Mexico Highlands 2-1 last Sunday. ASU is 2-1-4 all-time against FLC.

Dirks Field will also host a neutral-site matchup between Angelo State and Colorado Mesa (1-0-1) at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
