COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College midfielder
Yannis Becker was named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner
Sarah Meier announced today.
Becker, a 6-foot freshman from Gymnasium Obervieland in Sittensen, Germany, scored game-winning goals in FLC's 1-0 over California Baptist (on Monday, Sept. 10 in Gilbert, Ariz.) and Colorado Mesa (with 25 seconds remaining in the second overtime last Friday night in Grand Junction, Colo.).
“Yannis has had a great offensive output for a freshman and has come up big in some very tight games,” said fourth-year FLC head coach
Oige Kennedy. “I think we'll see a lot more in the future as he gets more used to the system that we play.”
Becker leads the No. 17-ranked Skyhawks (4-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 RMAC) in goals (four), points (nine), and game-winners (three) through six games.
He becomes the second Skyhawk men's soccer player to be honored by the RMAC this season. Goalkeeper
Ryan Schaul was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4.
Home action continues at Dirks Field this weekend, as the Skyhawks host Adams State (1-3-0, 1-0-0) at 3:30 p.m. Friday and UC-Colorado Springs (1-3-0, 0-1-0) at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fort Lewis has dominated the all-time series with each school, owning a 5-0-0 all-time record against Adams State and a 38-5-4 all-time record against UCCS. FLC has won 22 straight games against the Mountain Lions.
