GRAND LAKE, Colo. — Fort Lewis College defense Jenna Steele was one of 82 student-athletes from the NCAA Division II level to be named to the International Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll, the organization announced on Tuesday.

“Jenna is a player who really takes pride in everything she does on the lacrosse field and in the classroom,” said Kelsey MacDonald, who begins her third season as head lacrosse coach at Fort Lewis this fall. “Having been chosen to be a captain for her third year shows how much her teammates respect her and look up to her. She is a great leader and I very proud of all of her accomplishments.”

Steele, a 5-foot-6 senior-to-be from West Linn, Ore., maintains a 3.83 GPA in Exercise Science-Sport Administration. She has been named to the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Academic squad and the All-WILA second team each of the last two years.

During her 2012 season, Steele recorded 33 ground balls, 15 caused turnovers, 10 draw controls and a goal.

A former D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Award recipient, Steele ranks among FLC career leaders in games played (second, 40), caused turnovers (third, 28), ground balls (fourth, 74), draw controls (tenth, 24), and total points (25th, 3).

She becomes the second-ever Skyhawk lacrosse player to be named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. Steele's former teammate, Katharine Allen, received the honor following the 2011 season.
