Santistevan, Schreibvogel join Simmons on all-tournament team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College's Jamie Simmons was named the Most Valuable Player of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout and Jenna Santistevan joined her on the all-tournament team, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced last Saturday.

Katie Hall and Nikki Trujillo of Western State and Jessica Brown of UC-Colorado Springs also earned all-tournament honors.

Simmons, a 6-foot senior center from Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston, elevated her game throughout the weeklong tournament. She had 14 points and seven rebounds in FLC's 96-64, opening round blowout of Colorado Christian last Tuesday in Whalen Gymnasium. In the semifinals, she led FLC with 14 points, six rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals in a 68-65 win over UC-Colorado Springs on Friday at the Colorado State Fair Events Center in Pueblo. She added 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field in FLC's 87-78 win over Western State in the tournament championship game on Saturday.

Santistevan, a 6-foot senior center from Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Colo., notched a double-double against Christian last Tuesday with 12 points and 10 rebounds, adding four blocks and three steals. She had five points, three steals, and two rebounds in the semifinal win over UCCS, and 14 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in the championship game. This marked the second straight season that Santistevan earned RMAC Shootout all-tournament accolades.

Schreibvogel, a 6-foot senior forward from Weld Central High School in Keenesburg, Colo., notched 16 points and six caroms against the Cougars last Tuesday, 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists against the Mountain Lions on Friday, and 14 points and seven boards against the Mountaineers on Saturday. She was previously the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 RMAC Shootout.
The Skyhawks, ranked No. 14 in the latest USA TODAY ESPN Division II coaches' poll, have a 25-4 overall record and finished second in the RMAC regular season with a 19-3 slate in league games.

Fort Lewis is seeded No. 3 in the NCAA Division II Central Regionals and play seventh-seeded Mary (N.D.) at noon (MST) on Friday in the first round at Rice Auditorium in Wayne, Neb. Should the Skyhawks win, they'll advance to the regional semifinals and face the winner of Metro State/Minnesota-Duluth at 4 p.m. (MST) Saturday. The regional championship game will take place at 6 p.m. (MST) next Monday in Wayne.
