2011-12 All-RMAC women's basketball team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Five members of the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team received All-
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced yesterday.
Dana Schreibvogel earned All-RMAC first team honors, while
Jenna Santistevan was named to the second team, and
Mary Rose Paiz,
Erika Richards, and
Jamie Simmons received third team accolades.
Schreibvogel, a 6-foot senior forward from Weld Central High School in Keenesburg, was one of just two players to be unanimous picks on the All-RMAC first team. Last year, she was the RMAC Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the RMAC Shootout. She's also a three-time member of the RMAC All-Academic squad, having been named to the first team as a senior, second team as a junior, and \ Honor Roll as a sophomore. She was named to two different All-America teams as a junior — the Women's DII Bulletin All-America third team and WBCA All-America honorable mention. She has also received RMAC/Baden Player of the Week honors seven times during her career. Earlier this fall, she was named to Fort Lewis College's All-Century Team, which celebrated the top 100 student-athletes, coaches, and administrators in school history.
She ranks among RMAC leaders in field goal shooting (ninth, .493), scoring (11th, 13.6 ppg), defensive rebounds (13th, 4.1 rpg), steals (14th, 1.7 spg), assists (20th, 2.0 spg), and rebounds (26th, 5.3 rpg).
Schreibvogel ranks among FLC career leaders in free throws (fourth, 209), field goals (fifth, 460), scoring (sixth, 1,260), rebounds (tenth, 541), steals (16th, 137), and blocked shots (19th, 31).
“It's well-deserved again for Dana. She is one of the top two or three players in our league,” said Kellogg. “Her stats weren't as good this year, but that really shows her character. She keeps the team goals in mind. She's come a long way in four years and it's a great honor for her.”
Santistevan, a 6-foot senior center from Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, earned All-RMAC accolades for the first time. She is a three-time RMAC All-Academic selection, having been named to the second team as a senior and Honor Roll as a sophomore and junior. She is also a two-time recipient of the D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award and a three-time RMAC/Baden Defensive Player of the Week.
She ranks among FLC career leaders in blocked shots (fourth, 105), rebounds (13th, 469), and steals (18th, 132).
Santistevan leads the RMAC in field goal shooting (.571) and ranks among league leaders in blocks (second, 1.8 bpg), offensive rebounds (third
, 3.0 rpg), rebounds (tenth, 6.4), and defensive rebounds (23rd, 3.4 rpg).
“I'm super excited for Jenna. Talk about coming a long way in four years – she's come so far and worked so hard,” said Kellogg. “She's kind of the energizer. She's so active and her motor never stops. It's a real tribute to her work ethic and dedication to our program.”
Paiz, a 5-foot-11 senior guard/forward from St. Pius X High School in Albuquerque, N.M., earned All-RMAC honors for the second time, after being a second team pick in 2010-11. She is also a three-time RMAC All-Academic selection (first team the past two years, Honor Roll as a sophomore) and a two-time recipient of the D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award. Earlier this season, she earned the RMAC's Defensive Player of the Week for Dec. 19.
She ranks among FLC career leaders in rebounds (eighth, 587), steals (ninth, 171), free throws (tenth, 188), blocked shots (17th, 34), and three-pointers (17th, 60).
Paiz ranks among RMAC leaders in field goal percentage (tenth, .448), defensive rebounds (15th, 4.0 rpg), rebounds (22nd, 5.6 rpg), three-point field goals (29th, 0.9 per game), and offensive rebounds (30th, 1.6 rpg).
“Mary goes unnoticed so many times for what she does for our team,” said Kellogg. “The stats don't always indicate her impact on our team.”
Richards, a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard from Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Ariz., earned All-RMAC honors for the first time in her career. Earlier this season, she was named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
She ranks among RMAC leaders in three-point shooting (fourth, .398), field goal shooting (sixth, .513), free throw shooting (sixth, .797), three-pointers made (17th, 1.3 per game), and scoring (22nd, 10.7 ppg).
Richards also ranks 15th in school history in three pointers (70).
“Our depth shows through in kids who are coming off our bench and sacrificing playing a lot of minutes,” said Kellogg. “To come off our bench and give us instant offense shows this is just the beginning for Erika and her career here.”
Simmons, a 6-foot senior center from Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston, transferred to the Skyhawks from West Texas A&M this summer. She previously won a bevy of awards at WTAMU, including back-to-back Daktronics All-South Central Region first team awards, 2010-11 Lone Star Conference South Division Player of the Year, 2009-10 Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year, WBCA All-America honorable mention in 2009-10, and All-Lone Star South first team honors twice.
She ranked among RMAC leaders in field goal shooting (third, .543), offensive rebounds (13th, 2.2 rpg), rebounds (24th, 5.6 rpg), defensive rebounds (25th, 3.4 rpg), and scoring (29th, 9.8 ppg).
“I'm really proud of Jamie. The whole transfer situation has worked out so well for us,” said Kellogg. “Jamie has really bought into what our program is all about. She's really worked out on and off the court. She's a kid who sacrificed some individual stuff for the greater good of our team. “
Fort Lewis (23-4 overall, 19-3 and second place during the RMAC regular season), won its opening game in the RMAC Shootout last night by trouncing Colorado Christian 96-64 in Whalen Gymnasium.
