COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College's
Megan Striedel was named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic first team, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.
Three Skyhawks —
Serena Mancha,
Sam Weiss, and
Madyson Wellcome — were named to the RMAC All-Academic second team. Four more —
Allison Knewitz,
Amanda Raso,
Lauren Riley, and
Cassie Seaney — were named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
“Considering the amount of travel these kids have done in the last few weeks, this is very impressive,” sixth-year FLC head coach Damian Clarke said of having eight players represented on the RMAC all-academic teams. “These girls are the examples of hard work and dedication. Two of them, in K.K. (Knewitz) and Serena, have also won Student of the Year awards from the Chemistry Department in the last few years. Sam scores goals for fun while, while taking care of business in the class room. Both Striedel and Wellcome lead our team on and off the field, and Cassie, she just works her tail off. Raso works as hard or harder than any kid we have ever had in this program. She forces everyone around her to be better. Lauren deserves as much recognition as anyone in this group of student-athletes. She is the unsung hero, fit, fast, and obviously quite intelligent. I'm very proud of these girls.”
Striedel, a 5-foot-6 junior midfielder/forward from Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Ariz., carries a 3.88 grade point average in Exercise Science-Physiology. She earned RMAC All-Academic accolades for the second year in a row. During her three-year career, she's amassed 33 total points on 14 goals and five assists.

In 2012 alone, she ranks seventh in the nation in goals against average (0.374) and 10th in save percentage (.897). Her junior campaign has seen her allow just three goals in 723 minutes of action, post a 6-2-1 record, and record three shutouts while combining with

Friday's meeting between the Skyhawks and ThunderWolves is their first of 2012. FLC holds a slim, 15-14-5 advantage in the all-time series.
Sunday's contest with Colorado Mesa is their second meeting of 2012, with the two teams playing to a 0-0 scoreless tie through two overtimes in Grand Junction last month. FLC leads the all-time series 15-12-4. The Mavericks haven't beaten the Skyhawks since the 2007 season and are 0-7-2 against FLC during that stretch.
