COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College volleyball players
Taylor Frederking,
Shelby Lehman, and
Stephani Sonka were named to the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Honor Roll, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.
“I am very proud of the efforts from these three student-athletes,” said ninth-year FLC head coach Shelly Aaland. “To achieve this honor is a true testament to their efforts on and off the court. Our travel schedule is grueling and the commitment to the sport is consuming. To still be able to maintain a high GPA is outstanding.”
Frederking, a 6-foot junior middle blocker from Broomfield High School in Broomfield, Colo., carries a 3.48 grade point average in Art-Graphic Design. She averages 0.97 kills and 0.69 blocks per set as a part-time starter in 2012.
Lehman, a 6-foot-1 redshirt freshman outside hitter from Wickenburg High School in Wickenburg, Ariz., maintains a 3.41 GPA in Business Administration-Marketing. She averages 1.00 kills and 0.55 digs per set as a reserve in 2012.
Sonka, a 6-foot sophomore right side hitter from Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colo., has a 3.70 GPA in Psychology. A two-year starter, she averages 2.02 kills, 0.42 blocks, and 0.37 digs per set in 2012.
All three players earned RMAC All-Academic honors for the first time in their careers.
Colorado Mines senior outside hitter Jackie Stabell was named the RMAC All-Academic Player of the Year. Fifty-four student-athletes from the RMAC's 14 volleyball-playing schools received first team, second team, or Honor Roll accolades.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. The student-athlete's cumulative GPA is what they had earned prior to volleyball season beginning. RMAC sports information directors selected first and second teams.
Fort Lewis (9-9 overall, 5-5 RMAC) travels to the Front Range this week for a trio of matches against three of the RMAC's toughest teams. The Skyhawks play at UC-Colorado Springs (12-6, 7-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday, at No. 20 Metro State (12-6, 7-3) at 7 p.m. Friday, and at No. 18 Regis (15-6, 9-2) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
