COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College football players Doyle Bode, Phil Odell, and Evan Wagstrom were named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic first team, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.

Aaron Holt was named to the second team, while Brent Baker and Taylor Suta were named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.

“We are so proud of all of our young men who have been diligently working on their careers after football,” said third-year FLC head coach Cesar Rivas-Sandoval. “We have some outstanding student-athletes as well excellent young men. To balance athletics with academics, while performing at a high level is a very difficult thing to accomplish. We look forward to having our list of academic all-conference performers grow each and every year.”

Bode, a 5-foot-11, 195-lb. junior wide receiver from Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson, Ariz., carries a 3.59 grade point average in Exercise Science-Sport Administration. He was the RMAC's top vote-getter for RMAC All-Academic honors at the wide receiver position. This marks the second time that Bode has been recognized by the league for his academic achievements. He previously was named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll in 2011.

Bode's junior campaign has been a personal best for the three-year starter, as he's already caught 37 passes for 432 yards and two touchdowns. He ranks ninth in the RMAC in receiving yards per game (72.0). Last weekend, he became the 11th player in Fort Lewis history to catch 100 passes during his career. Bode now ranks 11th in school history with 102 catches; he also ranks 28th in career receiving yards (1,078).

Odell is a 6-foot-1 senior linebacker from Show Low High School in Show Low, Ariz., who maintains a 3.48 GPA in Business Administration-Management. This marks the third straight season that Odell was named to the RMAC All-Academic first team. He was also a D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award recipient in 2009 and a National Football Foundation-Colorado Chapter All-Colorado second team pick in 2011.

Earlier this season, Odell became the seventh player in FLC history to record 300 career tackles, and now stands in fifth place in the FLC record book with 312. He ranks ninth in the RMAC in 2012 with 52 total tackles and has ranked among league and national leaders each of his four seasons.

Wagstrom, a 6-foot-4, 270-lb. junior offensive lineman from Glenwood Springs High School and Silt, Colo., has a 3.88 GPA in European History. The three-year starter previously received RMAC All-Academic second team honors in 2011 and the D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award in 2010.

Holt, a 6-foot, 195 lb. junior wide receiver, carries a 3.79 GPA in History-Secondary Education with a minor in Coaching. He was an RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll performer in 2011 and received the D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award in 2010. Holt has caught three passes for 35 yards in 2012.

Baker is a 6-foot-1, 275-lb. junior offensive lineman from Fairview High School in Boulder, Colo., who maintains a 3.46 GPA in Business Administration-International Business and a minor in Pre-Law. The 2012 campaign marks his third straight year on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.

Suta is a 6-foot-1, 250-lb. redshirt freshman offensive lineman from Heritage High School in Littleton, Colo., who has a 3.38 GPA in Political Science.

To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. The student-athlete's cumulative GPA is what they had earned prior to football season beginning. RMAC sports information directors from schools that sponsor football selected first and second teams.

The Skyhawks (0-6 overall, 0-5 RMAC) look to pick up their first win of the season when they host Western State Colorado (0-7, 0-5) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ray Dennison Memorial Field. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 35-14 overall and 16-7 at Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks, though, won last year's meeting 27-10 at Western State.

The Bent Urban Sports Bar tailgate party starts at 10 a.m. in the parking lot east of the stadium.
