COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women's basketball player
Jenna Santistevan was named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference/Baden Defensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner
Sarah Meier announced today.
Santistevan, a 6-foot senior center from Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Colo., recorded seven blocked shots and three steals during a weekend in which she saw just 31 minutes of action to help No. 6 Fort Lewis sweep home games against Chadron State 88-54 on Friday and Nebraska-Kearney 91-66 on Saturday.
“Jenna is a great defender and is very much deserving of the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award,” said seventh-year FLC head coach Mark Kellogg. “The stats don't always tell the story of how good Jenna is defensively. She can defend all over the floor, defend multiple positions, and impact the game on the defensive end. Jenna is one of the premier defenders in our league.”
Santistevan led FLC in scoring against Nebraska-Kearney with 15 points. She also pulled down four defensive caroms.
As a team, the Skyhawks forced 61 turnovers over the weekend.
A two-year starter, Santistevan previously received RMAC/Baden Defensive Player of the Week awards twice during her junior season. She is also a two-time member of the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
Sixth-ranked Fort Lewis (10-1 overall, 7-0 in the RMAC) travels south next weekend for its annual New Mexico swing. The Skyhawks play at New Mexico Highlands (7-5, 3-5) at 6 p.m. Friday and at Western New Mexico (0-11, 0-8) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
