COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College golfer
Gavin Lyons was named to the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic first team, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.
Lyons, a senior from the Scottsdale Christian Academy in Scottsdale, Ariz., carries a 3.47 grade point average in accounting at Fort Lewis. He was named to the RMAC All-Academic first team for the first time ever after earning second team accolades as a junior and receiving RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll distinction as a sophomore.
The award is just the latest for Lyons, who previously was chosen as the golf team's Co-Most Valuable Player, earned co-medalist honors at the 2010-11 RMAC Men's Golf Championship, and was named to the All RMAC first team (for the second year in a row) and the RMAC All-Tournament Team.
Lyons helped lead the Skyhawks to the 2010-11 RMAC regular season championship — the seventh league golf title in school history.
To win co-medalist honors at the RMAC Championships, he shot 204 (-8) in three rounds on the par-72 Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz., on April 18-19 and turned in his three lowest rounds of the year: 69, 68 and 67. In the 24 rounds prior to this week's NCAA Central/West SuperRegional, Lyons averaged 74.08 strokes per 18 holes.
Lyons is the lone Skyhawk golfer to receive RMAC All-Academic honors in 2010-11.
