DURANGO, Colo. — Tim Jenkins received the Fort Lewis College football team's Most Valuable Player Award at the 2011 Skyhawk Awards Banquet, held April 7 at the Student Union Ballroom.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-2, 200-lb. quarterback from ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., earned All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team honors in 2010 and was chosen as the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 20, 2010. He ranked second in the conference in passing (293.4 yards per game) and total offense (286.6 yards per game) during his sophomore campaign. His passing totals also placed him eighth in the entire NCAA Division II.

“Tim has such a passion to play this game,” said Cesar Rivas-Sandoval, who just completed his second spring as head coach at Fort Lewis. “He spends more time preparing than any player out there. He truly wants and prepares to be the best at what he does every single week. We as coaches have to remember that he is so young and still developing as a young player because he wants to take more and more responsibility on his shoulders all of the time. We are very excited to have Tim for another two years. His competitive attitude will only make us better each and every year.”

Jenkins, who missed the final two games of the season due to a broken collarbone, is a two-year starter for the Skyhawks.

Fort Lewis finished 3-7 overall and 3-6 in RMAC games in 2010. The Skyhawks tied for sixth place in the RMAC. The team lost 10 seniors to graduation including Sam Apraku, Chris Calvert, Nick Frizzell, Michael Fuentes, Luke Geller, Foketi Inoki, Justin Johnson, Sam Loeblein, Rio Rogers and Brandon Schneider.
