ALAMOSA, Colo. — Fort Lewis College's
Jessica Norby was chosen as the
Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, WILA Commissioner Chris Day announced today. She previously received the honor on March 24.
Norby, a 5-foot-7 freshman attack from Chaska High School in Chaska, Minn., scored eight goals in FLC's final two games of the season last week. She scored six times in the Skyhawks' 16-10 win against Centre College last Saturday, adding two more goals in an 18-4 loss at Colorado College a day earlier. In the win over Centre, all six of Norby's shots found the back of the net. She added three ground balls and one draw control during the week.
“Jessica finished out the season just as strong as she started, showing her consistency as a player,” said first-year FLC head coach Kelsey MacDonald. “Jess' hunger to get the ball in the back of the net makes her a threat on attack. She had a very good first season and we are looking forward to the future.”
Norby set FLC single-season and career marks for most total points (71), points per game (5.07), goals (43), goals per game (3.07), assists (28) and assists per game (2.00) in 2011.
This marked the third time in 2011 that a Skyhawk had been recognized by WILA. In addition to Norby's two Offensive Player of the Week honors,
Abby Kvidera was named Defensive Player of the Week on April 14.
Fort Lewis finished it's third-ever season of women's lacrosse 7-7 overall and 4-2 in WILA games under MacDonald. The team loses just two seniors —
Katharine Allen and
Courtney Hancock — to graduation.
