GUNNISON, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women's basketball player
Dana Schreibvogel was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region first team, regional coordinator Jared Verner announced today.
Abby Jackson was named to the All-Central Region second team.
Schreibvogel, a 6-foot junior forward from Weld Central High School in Keenesburg, Colo., finished second in the voting for Central Region Player of the Year.
“Dana's great season is now being recognized outside of our conference and that is a tribute to the remarkable year she is having as well as the success of our team,” said sixth-year FLC women's basketball head coach Mark Kellogg.
The award is the latest in a long list of accolades that she's earned in her first season as a full-time starter for the Skyhawks, who enter the NCAA Division II playoffs as the No. 5 team in the nation and the top seed and host of the Central Regionals this Friday. She was previously chosen as the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the RMAC Shootout. Schreibvogel was also a first team All-RMAC selection, a second team RMAC All-Academic pick, the RMAC Student-Athlete of the Month for January, and a five-time RMAC Player of the Week (three offensive, two defensive) in 2010-11. She earned RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll and D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement awards a year ago.
Schreibvogel leads the RMAC in scoring (18.7 points per game) and field goal shooting (.579). She also ranks among league leaders in defensive rebounds (eighth, 5.3 per game), rebounding (12th, 6.6 per game), free throw shooting (12th, .778) and steals (13th, 1.7 per game). She also ranks eighth in the nation in field goal shooting.
She ranks among FLC career leaders in free throws (eighth, 225), blocked shots (19th, 27), field goals (18th, 323) and scoring (17th, 881 points).
Jackson, a 5-foot-4 guard from Memorial High School in Tulsa, Okla., earned All-Region honors for the first time in her collegiate career. She previously received All-RMAC first team, RMAC All-Academic first team and preseason All-RMAC accolades and was named to the All-RMAC Shootout squad in 2010-11. She earned RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll distinction during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons and was also a D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award recipient each of those two years. This year marked Jackson's third straight campaign on the All-RMAC squads, having been named to the second team in 2009-10 and honorable mention in 2008-09.
“This is a great honor for Abby in her senior campaign,” said Kellogg. “She has had a fantastic season and has done a phenomenal job leading this team back to the NCAA tournament.”
Jackson ranks among RMAC leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio (second, +2.1 per game), three-point percentage (second, .416), three-point field goals (third, 2.3 per game), steals (fifth, 1.9 per game), assists (sixth, 3.6 per game), free throw shooting (sixth, .815) and scoring (24th, 11.2 points per game).
She is also FLC's career leader in victories (117), assists (388) and three-point field goals (232) and ranks among career leaders in steals (eighth, 171), scoring (tenth, 1,007 points) and free throws (15th, 173).
The Skyhawks have qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs and won either the RMAC regular season or postseason championship in each of Jackson's four years.
