BILLINGS, Mont. — Fort Lewis College softball player Kayla Bruner was named All-Desert Stinger honorable mention yesterday, Montana State University Assistant Director of Operations and Media Relations Justin Kesterson announced yesterday.

Bruner, a 5-foot-6 senior catcher from Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah, batted .500 with seven hits, five RBI and three runs. She hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning against St. Martin's to lift FLC to a 7-6 victory Saturday morning.

Bruner hit .327 with 25 RBI, 16 runs scored, 10 doubles, four home runs and one triple n 2010 — her first season as a Skyhawk. She played two seasons of junior college softball at Lamar Community College in 2008 and '09, earning first team all-region honors.

Montana State-Billings hosted the 2011 Desert Stinger in Las Vegas, Nevada, from Feb. 12-14.

The Skyhawks went 1-4 at the Desert Stinger. They open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play at UC-Colorado Springs (0-4 overall) on Feb. 26-27. Games are slated for noon and 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Feb. 27.
