Santistevan named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week

Junior center finishes weekend with 12 rebounds, seven steals, two blocks

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women's basketball player Jenna Santistevan was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced today.

Santistevan, a 6-foot junior center from Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Colo., finished the weekend with 12 rebounds (seven defensive), seven steals and two blocks. She also set career highs in scoring (17 points), field goals (eight) and steals (five) on Friday against Colorado State-Pueblo.

“This is a much deserved honor for Jenna,” said sixth-year head coach Mark Kellogg. “She is the anchor of our defense and has been as solid as a rock defensively for us. She has really stepped up her play the last few weeks and it is nice to see her being rewarded for her play.”

Santistevan, who ranks 13th in school history with 43 blocked shots, also shot .533 from the field (eight of 15) and a perfect 1.000 from the line (one for one) on the weekend.

This marks the sixth time this year that a Skyhawk women's basketball player has received a weekly RMAC award — the most in school history. Dana Schreibvogel received five such honors (three offensive, two defensive) earlier this season.

Fort Lewis (22-1, 17-1 RMAC), ranked No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY ESPN NCAA Division II poll, concludes its regular season home slate when it hosts Colorado Mines (7-16, 3-15) and Colorado Christian (16-6, 14-4) in Whalen Gymnasium Friday and Saturday. Game times are 5:30 p.m. each night. The Skyhawks are currently riding a school record 43-game home winning streak.

Saturday marks senior night, with FLC's lone senior — point guard Abby Jackson — to be recognized in pregame festivities. Jackson is the school's career leader in victories (110), assists (364) and three-point field goals (214).
