DENVER — Two Fort Lewis College men's soccer players were honored by
College Soccer 360.com last Friday in its final weekly player awards of the season.
Joey Madigan was named the College Soccer 360.com Primetime Player after notching the national championship-winning assist in FLC's 3-2 overtime win over Lynne (Fla.) on Dec. 3.
Kosta Kordistos was named to the College Soccer 360.com Primetime Performers final weekly honor roll after scoring a pair of goals in the NCAA Division II Final Four.
The award was the just the latest for Madigan, a 5-foot-9 senior midfielder from Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. Previously this year, he was named to the NSCAA All-America second team, the NSCAA All-Central Region first team, the Daktronics All-Central Region second team, the All-
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team, the RMAC All-Academic second team, and the RMAC All-Tournament team. He ranked second on the Skyhawks with 22 total points (seven goals, eight assists) in 2011.
During his two-year FLC career, Madigan amassed 35 total points (11 goals, 13 assists) — good for 22nd place in school history.
Kordistos, a 5-foot-9 freshman forward from Ev. Gymnasium Lippstadt in Lippstadt, Germany, was named the Offensive Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Division II Final Four, to the All-Final Four team, and the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13. His missed 13 games during his freshman campaign due to a partially-torn ACL, but returned strong for the league and national playoffs.
Kordistos shared the team lead with nine goals in 2011, even though he appeared in just 12 games.
All totaled, four Skyhawk men's players were honored by College Soccer 360.com during 2011.
Fabian Kling was named to the honor roll on Nov. 17, while
Thomas Hoang was selected as the national Primetime Player on Sept. 15.
Fort Lewis women's player Hayley Hollenga was named to the College Soccer 360.com Honor Roll on Oct. 19.
The Skyhawk men captured their third NCAA Division II championship in 2011, having previously won national titles in 2005 and 2009. FLC was national runners-up in 1999 and 2006. Fort Lewis posted a 24-1-0 overall record, 13-1-0 in RMAC games. The Skyhawks also won NCAA-II Central Region, RMAC regular season, and RMAC tournament titles.
