Jenkins chosen as RMAC Offensive Player of the Week

Junior passes for 245 yards, three TDs in 27-10 win at Western State

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College quarterback Tim Jenkins was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced yesterday.

“We're all very happy for Tim to get the individual award, but it's something that's earned by the entire team,” said second-year FLC head coach Cesar Rivas-Sandoval. “We're all proud of Tim as an individual, but we're even prouder of the entire group. We understand that he was able to earn it because of a team effort.”

Jenkins, a 6-foot-3, 220-lb. junior from ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., completed 18 of 30 passes for 245 and three touchdowns in FLC's 27-10 win at Western State last Saturday.

It marked the second time in his career that he received the RMAC weekly honor. He previously received the award on Sept. 20, 2010.

Jenkins was also a second team All-RMAC selection in 2010 after being named the league's Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2009.

The Skyhawks (2-5 overall, 1-4 in the RMAC) return home Saturday, where they'll host Adams State (4-3, 2-3) at 1 p.m. at Ray Dennison Memorial Field. The game is the annual musket game between the two schools, with seniors from the winning team earning the right to fire the Springfield .45-70 rifle after the game.

The Skyhawk Booster Club will also hold a tailgate party in Skyhawk Gardens, located in the northeast corner of Dennison Field, from 11 a.m. through the end of the third period. Food from the Balcony Bar & Grill will be sold, along with beverages from Coca-Cola of Durango, A&L Coors, and Steamworks Brewing Co.
