COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women's basketball player Dana Schreibvogel was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced today.
Schreibvogel, a 6-foot junior forward from Weld Central High School in Keenesburg, Colo., led the third-ranked Skyhawks in scoring (45 points) and rebounding (17) in two road wins against Chadron State (69-43) and Nebraska-Kearney (99-76) earlier this week. She added five steals and an assists while shooting .593 from the field (16 of 27) and .857 from the free throw line (12 of 14).
“She doesn't even have an off game, that's what's amazing about this season,” said sixth-year head coach Mark Kellogg. “She's just playing at such a high level and with a lot of confidence.”
Schreibvogel previously received RMAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 22, as well as RMAC Offensive Player of the Week distinction on Dec. 6.
No FLC women's basketball player has ever received the distinction five times in a single season. Amy Mohr (2001-05), a member of the RMAC Women's Basketball All-Century Team who had 10 RMAC West Division Player of the Week awards during her career, never had more than four in a single season.
“It's a tribute to our team as well because we won games,” said Kellogg. “They're individual awards, but at the same time they point to team success.”
Schriebvogel currently ranks among NCAA Division II leaders in scoring (37th, 18.1 points per game) and field goal shooting (sixth, .600). She leads the RMAC in field goal shooting and ranks second in scoring, second in defensive rebounds (6.2 per game), seventh in steals (2.3 per game), eighth in rebounding (7.8 per game) and 11th in free throw shooting (.776).
Fort Lewis returns home to Whalen Gymnasium for RMAC games against New Mexico Highlands (5-9, 2-6) and Western New Mexico (0-12, 0-8) Friday and Saturday. Both contests begin at 5:30 p.m. and precede the men's games against the same foes.
