CLEVELAND, Ohio — Forty-one Fort Lewis College student-athletes were among the more than 3,000 student-athletes from across the country to earn the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT.
“I am very proud of the student-athletes who receive this award,” said Director of Athletics Kelly Higgins. “It further indicates the quality of student-athletes our coaches recruit to FLC, which is a great predictor of our success in competition. It also shows up in our retention and graduation rates. Our goal is to be able to recognize all of our student-athletes as good students, great competitors and people of character.”
More Skyhawks received the national honor than any other Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference school.
The 41 student-athletes also represent a slight increase over the 2008-09 season, when 40 Skyhawks received the D2ADA accolades. Twenty-four student-athletes were repeat award winners.
Student-athletes must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years of college-level work, and be an active member of an intercollegiate team during the academic year. The school must also have an athletic director who is a current dues-paying member of the D2ADA.
WeatherPORT is in its third year of presenting the national award. The company has Western Slope roots, having been founded in Gunnison before expanding to its new operation in Delta.
