March 8, 2010.  Hays, KS. -
After a pair of one-run losses, including one in extra innings, to Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday in Hays, Kan., the Fort Lewis College softball Skyhawks had an “icky" taste in their mouths.

They reversed their fortunes Sunday.

FLC (4-7 overall, 3-3 RMAC) defeated UNK 7-6 in Game 1 in Hays, then won the second game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader 11-1 in five innings.

“They turned it up," Skyhawks coach Pam Adams said.

Fort Lewis scattered 12 hits through five innings in Game 2, “and we were hitting the ball really hard," Adams said.

Stephanie Janes allowed three hits and one run in the complete-game effort.

“She took care of business," Adams said.

Chelena Coulston was 2-for-2 with a pair of stolen bases.

Jordan Willis was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.

Brooke Bails was 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBIs.

Kayla Bruner was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Natalie Janes was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Amanda Willmon was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

“All these runs came with two outs and nobody on," Adams said. “It was double after double after double after double.

“We just decided (Sunday), after giving away a couple of close games (Saturday), that wasn't going to happen (Sunday)."

Willis was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs in Game 1, Stephanie Janes added two hits and an RBI, and Bruner collected a hit and two RBIs in the win.

Jayme Fuller, the sophomore from Piedra Vista High in Farmington, started Game 1 and was followed on the mound by Kassie Haubert and Stephanie Janes.

“We used 'em all in that first game just to get that icky feeling from (Saturday) out of our mouths," Adams said. “They all helped each other out. They were awesome."

FLC, playing in Hays because the Lopers' field was unplayable, picked up a nonconference game against Fort Hays State at 10 a.m. today.
