March 1, 2010. Durango, CO. - The Fort Lewis College men's & women's basketball teams will be hosting the first round of the RMAC Tournament for the third consecutive year. The women's team earned the #1 seed in the west while the men earned the #2 seed in the west. Both games will be played on Tuesday, March 2nd in Whalen Gymansium at 5:30pm (Women) and 7:30pm (Men). The quarterfinal round will decide if the teams move on to the RMAC Shootout in Pueblo, CO on March 5-6.
The women's team will be taking on the Mountaineers of Western State who received the #4 seed in the West with a (11-16 overall, 9-10 RMAC) record. The #4 nationally ranked Skyhawks finished the regular season with an FLC History best 28-2 overall record and a conference finish of 18-1. The Hawks' have played and beat the Mountaineers twice this season. In the first meeting they won at Western 77-70 and then flew by them the second time at home 75-60. Women's RMAC Bracket
The men will faces off against the talented Cowboys of New Mexico Highlands who received the #3 seed in the West after falling to Mesa State on Saturday night. The Cowboys have an overall record of 18-9 and a conference record of 12-7. The Skyhawks ended the regular season with a similar 18-9 overall record but a 13-6 conference record. NM Highlands has defeated FLC in both meetings this season. The first loss came down to the last second as they lost 93-95 at home and then fell in Las Vegas, NM 85-96.
