Lansdowne Scores 24 points in win over Western State

The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team bounced back from a disappointing loss Friday night with a solid 85-77 victory over Western State on Saturday night in Gunnison.

The win improves the Skyhawks' record to 9-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play and 15-5 overall.

Fort Lewis started the game fast, leading 18-5 after only five minutes of play. The  Skyhawks went into halftime leading convincingly 50-31.

The Skyhawks stumbled coming out early in the second half, and the Mountaineers (2-11 RMAC, 5-15 overall) cut the lead to six points before FLC pushed the lead back up to 14.

While the lead fluctuated throughout, the Skyhawks didn't trail in the second half.

DeAndre Lansdowne of Fort Lewis led all scorers with 24 points, and Daniel Steffensen added 14 for the Skyhawks.

Durango High School alum Matt Morris scored 13 points and collected a game-high nine rebounds.

Matt Billups scored 10 points despite being in foul trouble for most of the second half.

David Kanyinda also had 10 points. Kyle Behrens added seven points and four rebounds.

The Skyhawks play on the road again at 8 p.m. Friday against RMAC foe New Mexico Highlands. They then travel to CSU-Pueblo next Saturday to take on the Thunderwolves at 8 p.m.
