COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College cross country runners
Ashley Kelly,
Gentry Peppin and
Helen Smith were named to the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Honor Roll, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.
“Ashley, Gentry and Helen have proven that their hard work extends beyond the athletic field and into the classroom,” said Skyhawk head cross country coach
Ken Flint. “It's encouraging as a coach to see the academic success of these fine young ladies. They are worthy ambassadors of our cross country team and our FLC community.”
Kelly, a senior from Brighton High School, carries a 3.99 grade point average in Chemistry-Biochemistry. She earned USTFCCA Academic All-America honors in 2009 and narrowly missed repeating as an Academic All-American in 2010. She is also a two-time D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award recipient.
Peppin, a junior from Meadowdale High School in Edmonds, Wash., carries a 3.66 grade point average in Math-Secondary Education. She is a repeat RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll performer, having earned the same distinction in 2009. She also received the D2 Athletic Directors Association/WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Award last season.
Smith, a sophomore from Thomas Worthington High School in Westerville, Ohio, carries a 3.31 grade point average in Spanish. 2010 marked the first year that she was eligible for the award.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. The student-athlete's cumulative GPA is what they had earned prior to cross country season beginning.
