COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women's basketball player
Dana Schreibvogel was named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner
Sarah Meier announced yesterday.
Schreibvogel, a 6-foot junior forward from Weld Central High School in Keenesburg, Colo., set a career-high with 21 points in then-No. 12 FLC's 93-69 thrashing of then-No. 7 West Texas A&M on Saturday. Coupled with her stat line from an 86-56 win over Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 13, she has made 14 of 25 field goals (.560), eight of 10 free throws (.800), grabbed 19 rebounds, made seven steals, and matched her career-high with three assists in each game. She is currently averaging 18.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists per game.
“Dana is obviously playing at both ends of the floor right now,” said sixth-year head coach
Mark Kellogg. “She's a good athlete, she's aggressive, strong around the basket so she can finish. She's relishing her opportunity.”
Yesterday marked the first time the RMAC has issued offensive and defensive Players of the Week. In previous years, the league honored the top players from the East and West Divisions. For the 2010-11 season, the RMAC has done away with its two divisions and increased the number of league games by three.
Thus, due to the newness of the twin awards, Schreibvogel is the only player in league history to win both accolades in one week.
Fort Lewis (2-0 overall), which climbed to No. 8 in today's USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 women's basketball poll, returns to action over Thanksgiving break. The Skyhawks play three games in three nights at the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational, hosted by Alaska Fairbanks from Nov. 25-27. FLC will face Mercyhurst (0-3) at 7:15 p.m. MST Thursday, Dominican (0-3) at 7:15 p.m. MST Friday and Alaska Fairbanks (0-3) at 9:30 p.m. MST Saturday.
