ALAMOSA, Colo. – No. 3 Fort Lewis College placed five players on the Daktronics All-Central Region women's soccer teams, regional chair Chris Day announced today.

Hayley Hollenga and Erika Shisler were named to the regional first team, while Sara Egbom, Christine Schmelzle and Madyson Wellcome were named to the regional second team.

Hollenga, a 5-foot-8 junior forward from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, is the Skyhawks' all-time leader in total points (85), shares the school's career assist leadership with Shisler (21) and ranks second in career goals (32) behind Carissa Bradford (1995-99) and Kate Mahler (2003-06), each of whom had 34 markers during their respective careers.

2010 has seen Hollenga amass a wealth of recognition. She was named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Academic All-RMAC and Preseason All-RMAC first teams, the RMAC All-Tournament Team, was the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14, and became the first woman athlete in FLC history to be listed in Sports Illustrated's “Faces in the Crowd” (Sept. 30).

She leads the RMAC in game-winning goals (six) and ranks among league leaders in goals per game (second, 0.67), points per game (third, 1.39), goals (third, 12) and scoring (sixth, 25 total points, 12 goals, one assist).

“Hayley has been extremely consistent,” said fourth-year head coach Damian Clarke. “She's a player who is effective in a number of different ways.”

Shisler, a 5-foot-3 senior midfielder from Durango, shares FLC's career lead in assists (21) with Hollenga and ranks among the Skyhawks' all-time leaders in total points (fourth, 63) and goals (fifth, 21). During 2010, she has notched 18 total points (three goals, 12 assists). She was a second team All-RMAC selection earlier this fall after being named third team All-RMAC in 2008.

Shisler's 12 assists thus far in 2010 leads the RMAC and establishes a new FLC single-season record. She also leads in the RMAC in assists per game (0.57) and ranks among league leaders in total points (12th, 18) and points per game (13th, 0.86).

“Shizzie is a very dynamic player who is quite athletic and capable of causing a lot of problems for opposing teams,” said Clarke.

Schmelzle, a 5-foot-9 senior from Coconino High School in Flagstaff, Ariz., has been the backbone behind FLC's historic run this year. She has already received a score of recognition in 2010. She was RMAC Athlete of the Month for October, RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, named to the RMAC, RMAC All-Academic and Preseason All-RMAC first teams, was a first team ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 pick, and a three-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week performer.

Schmelzle leads the RMAC in goals against average (0.55) and shutouts (10) and ranks second in save percentage (.871) and fourth in saves (3.86 per game).

“Cricket is a monster of an athlete,” Clarke said of his goalkeeper. “She is also very technically sound.”

Egbom, a 5-foot-4 junior forward from Hope Christian High School in Albuquerque, N.M., adds her second team Daktronics All-Central Region honor to a year that's seen her named to the RMAC All-Academic first team and All-RMAC and ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 second teams.

She ranks among RMAC leaders in assists (eighth, five), assists per game (12th, 0.24), total points (17th, 15), goals (19th, five), points per game (19th, 0.71) and goals per game (21st, 0.24).

“Eggie's another very dynamic player,” said Clarke. “She has a higher soccer IQ than most.”

Wellcome, a 5-foot-5 freshman defender from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz., continues to garner quite a number of accolades for a freshman. She previously was named to the RMAC All-Tournament team, earned a third team All-RMAC selection, and was named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12, 2010.

“She's a very calm and composed defender, good on the ball and very good in one v. one situations” said Clarke.

Fort Lewis will face No. 14 Winona State (Minn.) (17-3-2) in the third round of the NCAA playoffs on Friday, Nov. 19 in Allendale, Mich.
