COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fort Lewis College volleyball player Taylor Hillberry was named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic first team, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.

“I am thrilled with the academic performance of the four players receiving this award,” said seventh-year head coach Shelly Aaland. “They truly exemplify the student-athlete we strive for at this level.”

Hillberry, a 6-foot senior middle blocker from Northglenn High School and Westminster, carries a 3.82 grade point average in Art—K-12 teaching option. She was an RMAC All-Academic second team selection as a junior and an RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll performer as a sophomore. Hillberry also received the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award in 2009-10.

Chelsea Flaming, a 6-foot senior outside hitter from Durango, was named to the RMAC All-Academic second team and maintains a 3.36 GPA in the Art-Graphic Art option. This marks her first academic award at Fort Lewis, but she's no stranger to all-conference and all-region teams. Flaming has previously been named to the 2010 preseason All-RMAC team, the 2009 Daktronics All-Central Region second team, the 2009 All-RMAC first team and the 2008 All-RMAC second team.

Two Skyhawks — Adriana Saiz and Heather Bryant — were named to the 2010 RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.

Saiz, a 5-foot-9 senior setter from Manzano High School in Albuquerque, N.M., has a 3.46 GPA in Exercise Science.

Bryant, a 5-foot-8 junior defensive specialist from Loveland, has a 3.38 GPA in Biology.

To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. The student-athlete's cumulative GPA is what they had earned prior to volleyball season beginning. RMAC sports information directors selected first and second teams.

The Skyhawks (12-8 overall, 6-6 RMAC) host Western State (9-10, 4-8) at 7 p.m. Friday and CSU-Pueblo (6-13, 2-10) at 7 p.m. Saturday. Friday night's match is “Pink Digs” Night, with a goal of raising $20,000 for emergency scholarships for cancer patients. Saturday marks Boys & Girls Club Night as well as Skyhawk Senior Night, recognizing Flaming, Hillberry and Saiz.
