COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Nine members of the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team earned
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic accolades, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.
Three Skyhawks — goalkeeper
Christine Schmelzle and forwards
Sara Egbom and
Hayley Hollenga — were named to the RMAC All-Academic first team. Six others —
Jane Barden,
Madison Glantz,
Kortney Hull,
Torrey Larson,
Serena Macha and
Laurel Reinhardt — received RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll distinction.
“That's nearly a third of the kids in the program,” said fourth-year head coach
Damian Clarke, whose team is ranked sixth in the latest
NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II rankings. “In my opinion, that's what they're here to do — get an education and play soccer. Obviously, they're balancing it quite well.”
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. The student-athlete's cumulative GPA is what they had earned prior to soccer season beginning. RMAC sports information directors at schools that sponsor the sport of women's soccer selected first and second teams.
The Skyhawks conclude a six-game homestand by hosting Mesa State (4-6-2 overall, 2-5-1 RMAC) at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Dirks Field. Then they immediately hit the road for a pair of league games in Denver — at Colorado Christian (1-11-1, 1-7-1) at 3:30 p.m. Friday and at No. 11 Metro State (9-2-1, 5-2-1) at noon Sunday.
