COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College forward
Joe Barnd was chosen as the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, RMAC assistant commissioner
Sarah Meier announced today.
Barnd, a junior from Woodson High School in Fairfax, Va., found the back of the net twice and assisted on another goal during the week, lifting the Skyhawks to a pair of RMAC victories. He scored once and assisted on
Fabian Kling's game-winner in a 3-2 overtime win over previously No. 6 Metro State on Friday, then scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win against UC-Colorado Springs Saturday.
“Joe was unlucky at the start of the year because he missed out due to injury,” said second-year head coach
Oige Kennedy. “He's worked hard to get back into form. Not only is he scoring, but he's also creating a lot of chances for others as well.”
Barnd shares the team lead in total points and goals this season (13 points, 5 goals, 3 assists).
Fort Lewis (8-4-0 overall, 7-1-0 in the RMAC) is ranked No. 25 in the latest
NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II poll after a three-week absence.
FLC concludes its five-game homestand when it hosts Mesa State (6-5-2, 2-5-2) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dirks Field. Then it's off to Denver for a pair of games against two nationally-ranked foes: No. 11 Metro State (8-2-2, 5-1-2) at 3:30 p.m. Friday and No. 16 Regis (8-1-2, 4-1-2) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
