FLC Golf Finishes Season and Receives RMAC All- Academic Awards

May 7th, 2009, Lincoln, NE. - The Fort Lewis College Golf Team ended the season last week in the Central/West Super Regional Golf Tournament in Lincoln, Neb. The tournament was set-up where the top five teams of the 20 team tournament advance on to the Division II nationals and the top two individual golfers also advance.

As a team Fort Lewis finished the tournament in 11th place (909), just two strokes behind the number ten team Western Washington (907). Senior Luke Tanner led the Skyhawks in individual play where he was put into a five-way tie for the final wild card spot. Regardless of missing the national tournament by a single stroke, Tanner, who was 81st place after day one, surpassed 72 golfers in two days to tie for 9th place in the tournament shooting a 78-71-68-217 on the weekend. Rugged waether was said to have played a huge role in the first round of golf. Coach Bud Andersen said, "putting problems and weather conditions hurt us early in the tournament but overall we did well." The other four golfers, Gavin Lyons, Doug Manske, David Schroeder and Michael Adams all ranked from 41st-94th in the tournament.

The Skyhawks had five players placed on the RMAC All-Academic List. Luke Tanner earned First Team All-Academic with a 3.25 GPA. Gavin Lyons, Michael Adams, Brandon Sundquist and Robert Newland were all placed on the Academic Honor Roll. Below is a link to the RMAC All-Academic Men and Women's Golf Teams.
