Coach Clarke Named NSCAA/Mondo Collegiate Central Region Coach of the Year

Clarke Named Regional Coach of the Year

 


 

December 28, 2009.  Durango, CO. -  The most recent release from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced the 2009 NSCAA/Mondo Central Regional Coach of the Year and Fort Lewis' Women's Soccer Coach, Damian Clarke has earned the coach of the year honors for the women's side of the Central Region for the 2009 season. Frank Kohlenstein, coach of the Coloraodo Mines earned the honors on the men's side.

Clarke becomes the first women's soccer coach in FLC history to earn this honor. Clarke is coming off the most successful season in FLC Women's Soccer history with a 19-3-2 overall record, and a 12-2-2 RMAC record. The Skyhawks earned their best national ranking ever at #11, they were the RMAC Tournament Champions, hosted their first national tournament game and made it further than any women's soccer team in Fort Lewis history by making it to the 2nd round of the national tournament.

Clarke has amassed a 45-15-7 in his three seasons as head coach. With that have come RMAC Coach of the Year, two RMAC Tournament trophies, two trips to the national tournament and several players earning conference, regional and national honors. 

Collegiate coaches who achieved success during the 2009 season have been recognized with the announcement of the NSCAA/Mondo Regional Coaches of the Year. The recipients are selected based on a vote of their peers within their region.

Regional Coaches of the Year are finalists for the NSCAA/Mondo National Coach of the Year award at their respective levels. In NCAA play, any coach who is not selected a Regional Coach of the Year but advances to the national tournament semifinals is added to the ballot for National Coach of the Year.

The national awards will be announced at the annual NSCAA Awards Banquet, which will be held Friday evening, Jan. 15, in the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Downtown in Philadelphia, Pa., as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
