November 18, 2009. Durango, CO - The Fort Lewis Men's and Women's soccer teams both had players placed on the 2009 Daktronics All-Central Region Teams for their success this season.
The #1 Fort Lewis Men's soccer team placed the most players on the All-Region Teams with 8. David Barden and Euan Purcell on the Daktronics All-Central Region First Team. Barden, who was an All-RMAC first team selection, was second on the team with 10 goals and third on the squad with 25 points. Teammate Purcell, also an All-RMAC first team selection, led the RMAC in points (39) and goals (18). A native of Bolton, England, Purcell scored three game-winning goals.
Tom Settle of Fort Lewis was a unanimous All-RMAC first team selection who led his team and the league with 20 assists and has also tallied nine goals and one game winning goal. Jamie Cunningham helped his team to an undefeated league record. He tallied 12 points this season and helped hold opponents to a total of 11 goals in 22 games.
Zane Wells, the 2009 RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, led the league with nine shutouts. He played 1426 minutes, allowing only eight goals and making 25 saves for a 0.50 goals against average. He posted a 15-0-0 record.
Jeff Jenning (4 goals, 6 assists), Fabian Kling (7 goals, 1 assists), and Kyle Wood (1 goal, 3 assists) were all named to the Daktronics All-Central Region second team.
The Fort Lewis Women's soccer team placed both their senior captains Nichole Kluk and Jamie MacArthur on the Daktronics All-Central Region First Team after leading the team to the programs best season in history going 18-3-3, winning the RMAC Tournament and making it to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Kluk ended the season as the RMAC Defensive player of the Year and was also an All-RMAC first team selection helped the Skyhawks only allow their opponents score 18 goals in 24 games as she also tallied 1 assist. MacArthur was a unanimous All-RMAC first team selection scoring 9 goals and recording 1 assist for 19 points. MacArthur has also scored 4 game winning goals.
