November 12th, 2009. Colorado Springs, CO. - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced earlier today the 2009 RMAC Football Awards. Fort Lewis had four players recognized for their achievments on the field this season. The four honored were senior
Brian Engelhardt, junior
Justin Johnson, junior
Luke Geller and freshman
Tim Jenkins.
Engelhardt was selected to the All-RMAC First Team-Special Teams after recording 31 kick returns for 565 yards and 14 punt returns for 199 yards. Engelhardt led the team in return yards and also tallied 13 catches for 148 yards and one touchdown as a receiver.
Johnson was selected to to the All-RMAC Second Team-Offense after writing himslef into the school record books with, most receptions in a single season with 124 and amassing 1,136 yards receiving. Johnson led the RMAC in receptions and was second in yards receiving. Johnson also ranked highly in total offense produced by one player with 1,436. The junior scored five touchdowns on the season.
Luke Gellar was named to the All-RMAC Third Team-Offense after helping the Fort Lewis offensive line set a new record in Skyhawk Football history. Gellar and the other offensive lineman allowed 17 sacks this season which ranked them 3rd in the RMAC and first in FLC history with fewest sacks allowed.
Jenkins was recognized with the highest honor of the four, being named RMAC Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year. The freshman was ranked second in the RMAC in passing after completing 255 passes on 438 attempts, racking up 2,476 passing yards and 15 touchdowns. Jenkins also ranked third in the RMAC in total offense with 157 rushing yards to add to his passing yards for a total of 2,633.
